May 13, 2018 (Ascension of the Lord)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel: Mark 16:15-20
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen.
Reflection
“Hey you, men and women baptized in My Name, why are still in your seats? Isn’t it that the task to continue my mission is already clear? Are you still afraid? Is my assurance not enough for you?” This line might be the call of Jesus to each one of us now. We sometimes think that this biblical story is only intended to the apostles but gone are the days that they were here. Maybe we also think that the tasks he gave were only for the ordained ministers of the church. The reality is, we carry Christ in our birth in then Church so we must also carry Him in our duties to our neighbors.
Lasallian Guiding Principles
Our founder St. John Baptist De La Salle clearly stood up from where he was before to follow God’s commissioning. It was clear to him that educational services to the poor are bringing Christ closely to their heart. He believed in the assurance of Jesus to be not afraid in the midst of challenges. Now, we lasallians can become instruments of the integral liberation and salvation of all if respond to the call of Jesus to continue serving Him using our extended loving arms to our neighbors. With this act, we do not make ourselves famous for we carry not our name but Jesus’.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, through the gift of your Holy Spirit, you fill us with an indomitable spirit of praise and joy which no earthly trial can subdue. Fill us with your resurrection joy and help me to live a life of praise and thanksgiving for your glory. May we witness to those around us the joy of the Gospel and the reality of your great victory over sin and death. We make this prayer with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, Amen.
