Matthew 25:1-13
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, `Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, `Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise replied, `Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterward the other maidens came also, saying, `Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he replied, `Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
Reflection
How do we prepare for the arrival of an expected guest? We clean our house, we cook delicious delicacies, and we bring out new utensils and vestments. Physically we are already prepared for we want to give the best in us. But there are times that we fail to check whether our total self, or our spirit is ready to receive the guest. The message of the Gospel is the same. We have to look within our selves whether we bring extra oil for our lamp before the arrival of Jesus Christ, our expected guest.

As stated in the LGP, The spirit of faith allows one to search God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan. Our founder St. John Baptist De La Salle educated the poor children of France to be prepared in all their classroom activities. He lead them to be both physically and spiritually ready in all their endeavors. As we continue his mission, we are called to be instruments of our children’s salvation by leading them to both physical and spiritual wellness.
One Commitment Prayer
Lord Jesus, You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters. You call us to follow you. You invite us to announce the Good News. Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment. Teach us to go beyond our borders. Teach us to discover you in the lowliest. Teach us to see with the eyes of faith. Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians throughout the whole world. We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary, Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
