Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Luke 18:9-14
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, `God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, `God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Reflection
How can we know if our prayer is pleasing to God or not? The gospel is all about Jesus when he tells a parable to some people who were self-righteous and proud. Those who prays proudly to God, boasting of his religious deeds will be heard and recognized by God but God cannot hear if we boast in ourselves and despise others. This parable presents both an opportunity and a warning. Pride leads to self-deception and spiritual blindness. True humility helps us to see ourselves as we really are in God’s eyes and it inclines us to seek God’s help and mercy. God dwells with the humble of heart who recognize their own sinfulness and who acknowledge God’s mercy and saving grace. I pray that God may hear all of our inner thoughts and intentions and may He forgive others as He have forgiven.
Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the Lasallian Guiding Principle, the spirit of faith allows one to search God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan. In connection to the gospel, we should have faith to him with all of our hearts and not by the reason that we need something from him. Saint John Baptist de La Salle was very dedicated and faithful to him no matter what happens that’s why God heard all of his intentions and made him an instrument to tell each and every one of us to always have faith and trust Him in every way. As a Lasallians, we should always trust God’s plan as He always hear our prayers. Though it may not happen today, take a little patience and a whole lot of faith because God’s perfect timing is always worth the wait.
